Meet the Owner
Hi! My name is Kayla McCrady and I am the founder of Impact Learning in Longview, WA. I'm a certificated elementary teacher with a passion for helping students discover their potential and develop a love for learning.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in English Language Learning from Washington State University, as well as a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.
I have been teaching in the classroom for the past 9 years in grades 3-5 and have a background working with K-5 students in after-school programs and homeschool environments. One of my favorite parts of teaching is creating engaging learning materials and finding creative ways to make learning fun, meaningful, and accessible to each individual student. I've been known by many throughout my career as the "Rapping Teacher" because I'm always looking for creative and unexpected ways to bring learning to life, even if it means throwing down a beat.
Ultimately, I became a teacher because I believe that every student has the capacity to be a world changer and that as an educator, I have an incredible opportunity and privilege to make an impact on the future leaders of our cities, communities, nation, and even our world. Every great leader has a story and as such, I believe it's not so much about where you start, but how you finish. I always think that any student in front of me could be the
next President, as well as the next community leader, or business owner, or even great mom or dad, and that all of these positions hold equal importance in influencing and changing our world for the better because impacts can be monumental, as well as happen in the daily seemingly insignificant small actions that we take that later ripple into bigger, greater impacts. Impact Learning was born out of this philosophy.
Oddly enough, my teaching journey started many moons ago at the kitchen table homeschooling three of my younger siblings. Now, several years later, I've come full-circle back to my own kitchen table where tutoring takes place from my home-based business. It is my privilege to partner with you to change the world, one learner at a time.
Our Core Values and Approach
At Impact Learning, our approach is founded on the following five core values. These guide the way we teach, connect, and grow with each learner.
Impact
We value students first and foremost and seek to make a positive impact on who they are as people so they can in turn positively impact their homes, communities, and the world at large. We believe that developing postitive rapport and relationships are key in making an impact in students' lives.
Character
We believe in character above all else. We promote intergrity and respect and believe that the character of a learner is more important than their overall performance. It is our belief that building a strong character will not only help a student acheive success, but it will foster the necessary internal principles that are required to maintain it.
Fun
Learning can be tough and it is difficult for students to stay engaged and committed when it is also boring. Whether through student interests, movement, music, games, play, etc. we believe in bringing the fun and engagement back into learning so that students can not only learn, but enjoy it!
Flexibility
We believe that every learner is different and that it requires flexibility in the approach in order to be successful in teaching them all effectively. Every learner is created differently and we are devoted to creating programs and resources that meet the needs of the individual learner.
Home Connection
It has been said that the three pillars to learning are the teacher, the student, and the family. However, many programs fail to address the latter and thus miss out on a key piece of academic success. We believe in the power of including the students' family and home in the learning process and we empower and equip families to create an atmosphere of learning at home. Just like a great athlete practices off the court and a person in physical therapy does their home exercises to make gains, learning requires consistent practice and effort beyond the tutoring sessions that extend into the home. We support and partner with families to make this happen.
